‘Let Them Have Cake’


 ‘Let them have cake‘ is a documentary film by Alexis Krasilovsky from United States which is having its First Indian Premiere at the 7th international documentary and short film festival (IDSFFK) tomorrow. The film has been shot in 12 countries and 5 continents. ‘This is an ambitious project’ says Sanjoy Ghosh, co-producer and unit director of the film.
The smearing savor of ‘sweet’ suffuses throughout the Film. The story portrays a world of pastry making and its darker side. It deals with the problems the sweet delicacy creates in the human body and at a wide canvas, depicts the hardships at stage of production. It’s about tribe of people who devote themselves into the production stage who knows neither pastry nor coco but plays a prominent role in the process of making the sweet savor of food.
The hard crust of health issues the cake creates such as Diabetes and obesity with a contrast on the problem the people face at the production stage as economic crisis and hunger persists. Malnutrition caused due to over burdened labour and health issues because of labourless eating are what the film deals with. The film has its locale all over the world as Japan, Mexico, Peru, India, Bangladesh, Turkey, France, Somalia, Chile, Republic of Guinea, Papua New Guinea and United Kingdom.
The film has screened at the Dhaka Film festival at Bangladesh at the new Ethnografilm Festival, Paris and is an official selection at the Sole Luna Festival, Italy.
