മികച്ച സിനിമകള്‍ ഉണ്ടാകാന്‍ ചലച്ചിത്രമേളകള്‍ അനിവാര്യം : മന്ത്രി തിരുവഞ്ചൂര്‍
നിലവാരമുള്ള സിനിമകള്‍ ഉണ്ടാകുന്നതില്‍ ഹ്രസ്വചലച്ചിത്രമേളകള്‍ക്കുള്ള
പങ്ക്‌ വളരെ വലുതാണെന്നും സംഘാടന മികവിന്റെ തെളിവാണ്‌ മേളയുടെ വിജയമെന്നും
വനം-പരിസ്ഥിതി-സിനിമാ വകുപ്പ്‌ മന്ത്രി തിരുവഞ്ചൂര്‍ രാധാകൃഷ്ണന് പറഞ്ഞു. ഏഴാമത്
രാജ്യാന്തര ഡോക്യുമെന്ററി-ഹ്രസ്വചിത്രമേളയുടെ സമാപന സമ്മേളനം ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്‌ത്‌
സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. പരിസ്ഥിതി സംരക്ഷണവും, ശാസ്‌ത്രാവും
ഇതിവൃത്തങ്ങളായുള്ള സിനിമകള്‍ വരും മേളകളില്‍ കൂടുതലായി ഉള്‍പ്പെടുത്തുമെന്നും
അദ്ദേഹം കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്‍ത്തു. വിവിധ വിഭാഗങ്ങളില്‍ അവാര്‍ഡുകള്‍ നേടിയ ചിത്രങ്ങളുടെ
സംവിധായകര്‍ക്കുള്ള പുരസ്‌കാരങ്ങള്‍ മന്ത്രി ചടങ്ങില്‍ വിതരണം ചെയ്‌തു.
മേളയിലെ മികച്ച ദീര്‍ഘ ഡോക്യുമെന്ററിയായി ശ്രാവണ്‍ കട്ടിക്കനേനി
സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത `ക്രോണിക്കിള്‍സ്‌ ഓഫ് എ ടെമ്പിള്‍
പെയ്‌ന്റര്‍' എന്ന ചിത്രം തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ഒരു
ലക്ഷം രൂപയും പ്രശംസാപത്രവുമാണ്‌ അവാര്‍ഡ്‌. കവിതാ ബാല്‍,
നരേന്ദ്ര സക്‌സേന എന്നിവര്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന്‌ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത `കാന്‍ഡില്‍സ്‌
ഇന്‍ ദി വിന്‍ഡ്‌', വിവേക് ചൗധരി, പ്രദീക്‌ ഗുപ്‌ത, മിത്‌ ജാനി എന്നിവരുടെ `ഗൂംഗ പെഹല്‍വാന്‍' എന്നീ ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ ജൂറിയുടെ
പ്രത്യേക പരാമര്‍ശം നേടി.
മികച്ച ഹ്രസ്വ ഡോക്യുമെന്ററി വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ കവിത ദാത്തിറും അമിത്‌
സൊണാവെയ്‌നും ചേര്‍ന്ന്‌ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത `ബാബൈ' ഒന്നാം സ്ഥാനത്തെത്തി. 50,000 രൂപയയും
പ്രശംസാപത്രവുമാണ്‌ അവാര്‍ഡ്‌. സൗഗത ഭട്ടാചാര്യ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത `ട്രാഷ്‌', എന്ന ചിത്രമാണ് ജൂറിയുടെ പ്രത്യേക
പരാമര്‍ശം നേടിയത്‌.
മികച്ച ഷോര്ട്ട് ഫിക്ഷന്‍ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ `ദി പപ്പറ്റ്‌' മികച്ചതായി തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു.
സത്യാന്‍ഷു, ദേവാന്‍ഷു സിങ്‌ എന്നിവരാണ്‌ ഈ ചിത്രം
അണിയിച്ചൊരുക്കിയത്‌. ഏക്‌താര കളക്‌ടീവ്‌ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത `ഫിഷി മാജിക്കി'ന് ഈ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ പ്രത്യേക
പരാമര്‍ശം ലഭിച്ചു.
ഗീതാഞ്‌ജലി റാവു സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത `ട്രൂ
ലൗവ്‌ സ്റ്റോറി' മികച്ച ആനിമേഷന്‍ ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള പുരസ്‌കാരം
നേടി. `യു ആര്‍ റോട്ട്‌' എന്ന
ക്രിസ്റ്റോ ടോമി സംവിധാനം നിര്‍വഹിച്ച മ്യൂസിക്‌ വീഡിയോ ആണ്‌ ഈ വിഭാഗത്തിലെ മികച്ച
മ്യൂസിക്‌ വീഡിയോ. ചങ്ങനാശ്ശേരി സെന്റ്‌ ജോസഫ്‌സ്‌ കോളേജിലെ ബിരുദാനന്തരബിരുദ
വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത `സാള്‍ട്ട്‌ വാട്ടര്‍' മികച്ച ക്യാംപസ്‌ ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള അവാര്‍ഡ്‌ കരസ്ഥമാക്കി. മികച്ച
ഡോക്യുമെന്ററി സിനിമാട്ടോഗ്രാഫര്‍ക്കായി നവറോസ്‌ കോണ്‍ട്രാക്‌ടര്‍ ഏര്‍പ്പെടുത്തിയ
ക്യാഷ്‌ പ്രൈസ്‌ `രംഗഭൂമി'യുടെ
ഛായാഗ്രാഹന്‍ സൗമ്യാനന്ദസാഹി നേടി.
മികച്ച ജന്‍ഡര്‍ സെന്‍സിറ്റീവ്‌ സിനിമയ്‌ക്കായുള്ള 20,000
രൂപയുടെ ഐ.എ.ഡബ്ല്യൂ.ആര്‍.ടി. അവാര്‍ഡ്‌ അനുരൂപ പ്രകാശും,
ലോക്‌ പ്രകാശും സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത `വില്‍
ദിസ്‌ ചെയ്‌ഞ്ച്‌' കരസ്ഥമാക്കി.
കൈരളി തിയേറ്ററില്‍ നടന്ന ചടങ്ങില്‍ പ്രശസ്ത ശില്പി കാനായി
കുഞ്ഞിരാമന്‍ മുഖ്യാതിഥിയായിരുന്നു. ചലച്ചിത്ര അക്കാദമി വൈസ്‌ ചെയര്‍മാന്‍
ഗാന്ധിമതി ബാലന്‍, അക്കാദമി സെക്രട്ടറി രാജേന്ദ്രന്‍ നായര്‍, നിര്‍വാഹകസമിതി അംഗം ജോഷി മാത്യു, പ്രശസ്ത
ഛായാഗ്രാഹകന്‍ നവറോസ്‌ കോണ്‍ട്രാക്‌ടര്‍, മേളയുടെ ആര്‍ട്ടിസ്റ്റിക്‌
ഡയറക്ടര് ബീനാ പോള്‍ എന്നിവര്‍ സംബന്ധിച്ചു. സമാപന സമ്മേളനത്തിനുശേഷം പുരസ്‌കാരം
നേടിയ ചിത്രങ്ങളുടെ പ്രദര്‍ശനവും നടന്നു.

ക്രിയാത്മക ഡോക്യുമെന്റകള്‍ സംഭവിക്കുന്നതെന്ന്‌ പ്രശസ്ത ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സംവിധായിക സബാ
ധവാന്‍. മേളയോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് നിള തിയേറ്ററില്‍ `ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഡോക്യുമെന്ററി
സിനിമാപ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിലെ വനിതകള്‍' എന്ന വിഷയത്തില്‍ സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു
അവര്‍. സാമ്പത്തിക, വിതരണ വിഷയങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ അമിത
പ്രാധാന്യം നല്‍കാതെ ക്രിയാത്മതയ്‌ക്ക്‌ ഊന്നല്‍ നല്‍കുകയാണ്‌ പുതുതലമുറ
ചെയ്യേണ്ടതെന്നും അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. ഡോക്യുമെന്ററി നിര്‍മാണത്തിന്‌ ഫണ്ടും വിതരണവും പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ളതാണെങ്കിലും
പുതുമ സംഭാവനചെയ്യാനായില്ലെങ്കില്‍ അവ ഉപയോഗശൂന്യമാണെന്ന്‌ സബ പറഞ്ഞു.
അടിയന്തരാവസ്ഥയ്‌ക്കു ശേഷമാണ്‌ വനിതാ സിനിമാനിര്‍മാതാക്കള്‍ മുന്‍നിരയിലേക്ക്‌
കടന്നുവന്നത്‌. അനീതിക്കും ചൂഷണത്തിനുമെതിരെ പടവാളുയര്‍ത്താന്‍ സ്വതന്ത്ര ശബ്‌ദമായി
ഡോക്യുമെന്ററി നിലകൊള്ളണമെന്നും അവര്‍ കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്‍ത്തു.

സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അവര്‍.
ശ്രീലങ്ക ഇന്നും തമിഴ് സൈന്യത്തിന്റെ കരങ്ങളിലാണെന്ന്‌ `ദി ലാന്‍ഡ്‌ സ്റ്റില്‍ ബിലോങ്‌സ്‌ ടു ദി ആര്‍മി' എന്ന സിനിമയുടെ സംവിധായകന്‍ മഗാ തമിഴ് പ്രഭാകരന്‍.
ഒരു മാധ്യമപ്രവര്‍ത്തകയില്‍ നിന്നും ഡോക്യുമെന്ററി സിനിമാനിര്‍മാണത്തിലേക്കുള്ള
തന്റെ യാത്രയെപ്പറ്റിയാണ്‌ `കാന്‍ഡില്‍സ്‌ ഇന്‍ വിന്‍ഡ്‌'
എന്ന സിനിമയുടെ സംവിധായിക കവിത ബാഹ്‌ലി മുഖാമുഖത്തില്‍
സംസാരിച്ചത്‌. കര്‍ഷകരുടെ ആത്മഹത്യ പ്രമേയമാക്കിയ സിനിമ കവിത ബാഹ്‌ലിയും നന്ദന്‍
സക്‌സേനയും ചേര്‍ന്നാണ്‌ നിര്‍മിച്ചത്‌. ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ആത്മാവ്‌ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലാണ്‌
വസിക്കുന്നത്‌. എന്നിട്ടും എന്തുകൊണ്ട്‌ കര്‍ഷകര്‍ ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്ന
സംശയവും സംവിധായകര്‍ പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചു. മേളയില്‍ പ്രദര്‍ശിപ്പിച്ച ചിത്രങ്ങളുടെ
സംവിധായകരായ ശ്രീമോയി ഭട്ടാചാര്യ, കിസ്ലേ കെ, അനീസ്‌ കെ., സനോബേര്‍ ഷംസുധീന്‍, ശ്രാവണ്‍ കതികനേനി, മാധുരി മഹീന്ദര്‍
എന്നിവരും പരിപാടിയില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തു.

Lives in Villages, Then why farmers commit suicide”, told Kavitha Bahl co
director of ‘Candles in the wind’, told at the face to face session today at
the kairali porch. She also spoke on her transformation from a Journalist to a
Documentarian and Nandan Saxena along were with the film candles in the Light.
Nandan told that they are just farmers who sow seeds and it’s the viewer who
should bring an impact on the story
The
land still belongs to the army said director Maga Tamizh Prabhagaran who
did a film on Tamil war crimes He also explained the bitter experiences he
faced with the Srilankan army during his film. Priya Thuvassery films
My sacred glass bowl deals with the feminine gender issues. She said that the
film was done after having questionnaire, session and seminars on to know how people deal with the

വേദനയേയും സ്‌നേഹത്തെയും പ്രേമത്തെയും നഷ്ടത്തെയും കുറിച്ച് സംസാരിച്ചു. 'വാള്‍ സ്റ്റോറീസ്' എന്ന സിനിമയുടെ
സംവിധായികയായ ശാശ്വതി താലൂക്ദാര്‍ പടിഞ്ഞാറന്‍ ഹിമാലയ സംസ്‌കാരത്തിലുണ്ടായ
മാറ്റത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് പ്രതിപാദിച്ചു. 'സോളിറ്റിയൂഡി'ന്റെ സംവിധായകന്‍ മോഹിന്‍ മോഡി തന്റെ ചിത്രം
ഏകാന്തതയിലൂടെയുള്ള സഞ്ചാരമാണെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടുപോയ ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്‍ തുറന്ന
ആകാശം സ്വപ്നം കാണുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ചും അയാളുടെ വിവിധങ്ങളായ മനോവിചാരങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും
അദ്ദേഹം വാചാലനായി. സംവിധായകരായ ട്രിബണി
റായ്, തുടങ്ങിയവരും സംവധിച്ചു. പ്രോഗ്രാം ഡെപ്യൂട്ടി
ഡയറക്ടര് ജയന്തി നരേന്ദ്രന്‍ മോഡറേറ്ററായിരുന്നു.
അതിജീവനത്തിന്റെ കാഴ്ചകളുമായി മേളയുടെ അവസാന ദിനം
അതിജീവനത്തിന്റെ പുത്തന്‍ ആശയങ്ങളും സ്ത്രീപക്ഷ കാഴ്ച്ചപ്പാടുകളും അഭ്രപാളിയില്‍
മിന്നിത്തെളിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ ഏഴാമത് രാജ്യാന്തര ഡോക്യുമെന്ററി-ഹ്രസ്വചിത്രമേളയുടെ
അഞ്ചാം നാള്‍ അവിസ്മരണീയമായി. സമാപന ദിവസമായ ഇന്നലെ (ജൂലൈ 22) 27 സിനിമകളാണ്
പ്രദര്ശിപ്പിച്ചത്. ഇതില്‍ മത്സരവിഭാഗത്തില്‍ 10 ചിത്രങ്ങളാണുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്.

യുവതിയെക്കുറിച്ച് പ്രസിദ്ധ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഡോക്യുമെന്ററി സംവിധായിക കിം ലോങ്ങിനോട്ടോ
തയാറാക്കിയ ഡോക്യുമെന്ററിയാണ് 'സല്‍മ'. ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യയിലെ ഗ്രാമത്തില്‍ ജനിച്ചുവളര്‍ന്ന പെണ്‍കുട്ടി
വിവാഹത്തിനുവേണ്ടി വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം നിഷേധിക്കപ്പെട്ട് വീട്ടുതടങ്കലിലായെങ്കിലും
അക്ഷരങ്ങളെ സ്നേഹിച്ച് അവള്‍ കവയിത്രിയാകുന്നതും ദുരാചാരങ്ങളെയും അപരിഷ്‌കൃത
പാരമ്പര്യങ്ങളെയും എതിര്ക്കുന്നതുമാണ് ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ഇതിവൃത്തം. അക്ഷരങ്ങളോടുള്ള പ്രണയം അവളെ തമിഴിലെ ഏറ്റവും
പ്രശസ്തയായ കവയിത്രിയാക്കി.

കഥയുടെ വ്യത്യസ്തതകൊണ്ട് പ്രേക്ഷകശ്രദ്ധയാകര്‍ഷിച്ചു. കന്യകാത്വം എന്ന വിഷയത്തെ
വിവിധ സമുദായങ്ങളുടെ കാഴ്ചപ്പാടിലൂടെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുകയാണ് ഈ ചിത്രത്തില്‍.

മനുഷ്യരെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ളതാണ് ചിത്രം.
More Creative Documentaries are Made in the Toughest of Times: Saba Dewana
Paradoxically, more creative
documentaries are made in the darkest of times and during the most oppressive
regimes, opined Saba Dewan. Saba Dewan whose films have been included in the 7th
IDSFFK, was conducting a presentation on “Women in the Documentary Film
Movement in India”. She went on saying that today’s generation should focus
more on making their works creative rather than solely focusing on its funding
and distribution aspects. Funding and distribution of documentaries are
important, but if the film has nothing new or creative to convey, it will all
be useless, said Saba.
Saba Dewan’s presentation touched up
on all the important milestones and history of Women documentary filmmaking in
India. She said that a significant wave of women filmmakers came in India only
after the emergency period. It was a time to speak out, to protest against
injustice and exploitation and to ensure that never again would democracy and
democratic principles be allowed to be held hostage. It was in these turbulent,
heady times that the documentary found an independent voice and purpose at
variance from being a vehicle of propaganda by the state.

the crossroads : Nondon Bagchi life and living by Rajdeep Paul and Sarmistha
Maiti depicts the biographical documentary of a wonderfully engaging
personality, Nondon Bagchi, a Rock and
Jazz Musician in India who still plays 60s rock at the age of 60, with shades
of a near chaotic lifestyle, set in a period known for its path-breaking music.Sarmistha
stressed that the documentary does not end with Nondon Bagchi alone but it
tells the saga of entire generation of musicians.It is more or less a film on
passion and pain, love and lost. They received Special Mention to Directors'
Award at the 61st National Indian Film Awards 2013 for their film "At the
Crossroads: Nondon Bagchi Life and Living”. She spoke about her film in the
Press Meet held at Press Club on behalf of the 7th International
Documentray and Short Film Festival of Kerala.Shashwati Talukdar’s 'Wall
Stories' is about how a dispossessed saint, a newly minted gentry and
generations of painters created a syncretic culture in the Western Himalayas.
She selected the locale of her Wall Stories as Utharakhand as the story has
close connection with it.Gaurav Saxena’s “Freedom” pictures a Tibetan refugee boy growing in the small
Himalayan hill town of Dharamshala - exiled home of The Dalai Lama, and he
stumbles upon his exiled refugee identity when he’s told there is an invisible
‘R’ written on his forehead.Sivaramakrishnan’s first venture “Target” is a
short film which shows the struggle of a corporate employee in a day. His pain
to achieve the target point is clearly brought out here. Makarand Dambhare, a
student at the FTII’s “Maneesha 1941” is a personal history of a space that
left a mark on the cultural landscape of Maharashtra. It’s a brief moment of
memories in an empty home before the imminent demolition and assimilation into
the urban-scape.Tribeny Rai,a student of Satyajit Ray Film and Television
Institute came with her maiden film Patient No.666 and Others uncovers the journey of a certain patient no.
666. The journey reveals the hidden chamber which is believed to house the
‘guardian’ who heals all fear. Unaware of the consequence she ventures into
this kingdom. The Press Meet was made interactive by the participants who asked
their queries to make it a lively one.

എന്നീ വിഭാഗങ്ങളിലായി 40 ചിത്രങ്ങളാണ്
ഇന്നലെ പ്രദര്ശിപ്പിച്ചത്. പ്രേക്ഷക പ്രശംസയേറ്റുവാങ്ങിയ ചിത്രമായിരുന്നു വൈഷ്ണവി
സുന്ദര്‍രാജന്‍ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത `ഡോള്‍'. ഒരു പെണ്‍കുട്ടിയും
ബാര്‍ബറും തമ്മിലുള്ള ആത്മബന്ധത്തിന്റെ കഥയാണ്‌ ചിത്രം പറയുന്നത്‌. പെണ്‍കുട്ടിയുടെ
വളര്‍ച്ചയുടെ ഘട്ടത്തില്‍ അവരുടെ ബന്ധത്തിലുണ്ടാകുന്ന വ്യത്യാസങ്ങളാണ്‌ ചിത്രം
പങ്കുവെക്കുന്നത്‌. വിപിന്‍ പി. സമല്‍ബാരി സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത `ജസ്റ്റ്
ആന്‍ അണ്ടര്‍വയര്‍' പ്രമേയവൈവിധ്യംകൊണ്ട്‌ ശ്രദ്ധേയമായി.

‘Will power is the
biggest challenge a film maker faces’, opined Deyali Mukherjee director of ‘evening song’ at the face to face session which
happened today at the kairali porch today. Vipin P S director of ‘just an underwear’ shared his experience on the birth of
the film. A friend of his came up with the idea at a get together party and it
paved way for the film. An open discussion on broadcasting films in you tube
came up with hair splitting opinions. Commercial viability of a film is as
important as screening it in a Film Festival opinioned a spectator.

People Should Smell Films: Gireesh Kumar (Meet the Press: July 21)
Gireesh Kumar’s documentary 8 Rooms and 9 Doors explores the
life of ‘doms’, the traditional dissectors, who works in mortuaries in West
Bengal. It sheds light on their physical, mental and spiritual journey between
the house of the dead and the house of the living. He said that people should
smell films. He explicitly stated that the smell of a film means the duration
of time which it takes to live in the hearts of the multitudes in order to
substantiate his view. He expressed this
opinion in a Press Meet including the short film and documentary filmmakers whose
films were screened in the 7th International Short Film and
Documentary Festival of Kerala that was held yesterday at the Press Club. Kavita Datir, director of the documentary
Babai spoke about the pains of an eighty one year old lady who strives hard to
meet her bread and butter. Her husband Amit Sonawane who was the camera man of
this documentary had depicted all the shots with the touch of reality.
Vaishnavi, who produced the short film Paava, depicts the
relationship between a young girl and a barber. She coined her film as a self
experienced one as it expresses certain critical moments in life. She pointed
out that the relationship between two of them will go but not bitter. There
happens certain transition in their relation which is seen in almost all human threads.Abhijith
Patil, who is basically a photo journalist made his Bhairav applying his
photographic techniques.Sanjay Ghosh talked about the documentary Let them eat
cake , which deals with the universal issue of hunger.
Sachin Dev’s Carnival on Wheels, a documentary about the only
existing travelling theatre in Kerala pictures the story of their evolution,
struggle and success.. Abhijit Krishnan’s The Monsoon is a short documentary of
our monsoon and what it means to India and especially to Kerala. He said that
he tried to bring to limelight how monsoon influences the surroundings,
atmosphere and mentality of people.Saumyananda Sahi’s Small things Big things is a celebration of
education which becomes a matter of art. His depiction has a clear touch of
childhood relations and adventures of learning. Geetha j, Mohandas, Manjunathan
Subramanian and Archana Menon also participated in the press meet.

People Are Unwilling To Co-Produce Films With India: Golda Sellam
A film co-production is a production where the production companies from different countries (typically two to three) are working together. The main benefits of such a partnership are the ability to pool financial resources and to access the partner government's incentives and subsidies. “Most of the people are unwilling to partner with India in a co-production agreement because the Indian government doesn’t give any significant tax benefits or subsidies”, said Golda Sellam, French producer who has years of experience working as a financer for films in Europe. She was conducting a presentation on “Co-production Opputunities for Documentary and Short Filmmakers” at Nila theatre yesterday, as a part of the 7th IDSFFK which is concluding today.
The presentation was aimed at helping those Documentarians and Short Fimmakers who are having a hard time finding a willing producer for their work, by exploring the many avenues that are available to them on an international scale, like film festivals, TV channels and the internet.
Golda Sellam is French producer who has years of experience as a financer and co-producer of television programs and films from Europe. She has studied Comparative Literature and Film in London, before joining the ‘Media Program’ of the ’European Community’ in 1995. She has conducted numerous cultural cooperation projects, workshops and media training seminars around the world for international institutions such as the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) and the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).
